A free calorie counter app,
made in Canada.
Zabeau logs food, training and weight for free — forever, not for two weeks. Barcode scanning, USDA search and your whole history are included, with no card and no ads. Built in Quebec by Zasenami, on the App Store and Google Play.
What does “free” mean here?
Most calorie counters are free until the part you needed. Zabeau’s free tier is the whole tracker: unlimited food, training and weight logging, barcode scanning powered by Open Food Facts, USDA food search, a built-in 308-food library and 72 exercises, the calendar, the streaks and the trend charts. No trial clock, no daily cap, no credit card. The AI coach is the only thing you ever pay for.
Log as much as you want
Food, training, weight and water — no daily cap, no entry limit, no “upgrade to keep logging.” The whole diary is yours.
Never a paid add-on
Point your camera at a barcode and Zabeau pulls the macros from Open Food Facts. It is free on the free tier, and it stays that way.
Search whole foods by name
Look up staples and whole foods in the USDA database, portion them, and log them in seconds — also free.
Nothing sold, nothing owed
No advertising, and nothing you log is monetized against you. You never enter a card to use the tracker.
Log on the plane
The tracker works fully offline and syncs when you’re back. Stop paying for the coach and your full history stays — it is never held hostage.
Export or delete, one tap
Settings hands you your whole history as a file through your phone’s own share sheet. Deleting your account is just as easy, and it takes everything with it.
Is Zabeau the best free calorie counter in Canada?
Depends what you mean by free. Canadian-made isn’t rare — one of the best-known calorie counters in the world is built in British Columbia, and it’s a good app. So “made in Canada” on its own isn’t the reason to pick anything.
The line worth comparing is where each app stops being free. In Zabeau the tracker never stops: unlimited logging, barcode scanning, USDA search, saved meals and custom foods, the calendar, streaks and trend charts, steps and sleep against goals you set — all of it on $0, with free forever meaning exactly that. We don’t cripple the free tier to push you upward, because the habit that decides anything here is logging consistently, and an app that nags you every third meal is an app you quietly stop opening.
What you pay for, if you ever do, is a second thing entirely — an AI coach that reads what you actually logged and proposes changes you apply in one tap. Skip it and nothing degrades. See exactly where the line sits on pricing.

What being Canadian actually changes
Some of it is flag-waving and some of it is real. Here is the part that is real.
Zasenami, in Laval
Zabeau is made by Zasenami, at Laval, Quebec. Our terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada, and our emails follow Canada’s anti-spam law — a real mailing address and a working unsubscribe in every one.
Local, not American
If a conversation ever drifts toward disordered eating, the coach stops coaching and hands you resources — and on a Canadian account those are Canadian ones. It never diagnoses, never prescribes, and it is never a substitute for a doctor.
English and Quebec French
Every page you can read here exists in Quebec French too, written for Quebec rather than translated at. Switch language in the footer — and if you email us in French, you get a French reply.
Two things Canadian-made does not mean. Your data is not stored in Canada — the app is offline-first on your device and syncs to your own private account, but some of our providers process data outside the country, and privacy names each one. And the app’s interface is in English today; the French you are reading is the site, not the app. When that changes, this line changes with it.
You pay for a coach, never for a tracker
Coach ($12.99/mo or $99.99/yr — $8.33/mo, four months free) adds an AI coach that reads what you actually logged, photo → macros, surgical routine edits, body-composition scan import, and the Weekly Review. Pro ($24.99/mo or $189.99/yr) changes the cadence — the Daily Check-in, every morning, plus the intense coaching mode. Both are built on Claude, the AI assistant from Anthropic.
If you just want to track, stay on Free. The tracker is complete and it never expires.
Those figures are in US dollars (USD). You subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, and each store sets a fixed price for Canada from that base — it shows you the exact amount in your own currency before you pay. Full detail on pricing.
